This marathon (Διεθνής Μαραθώνιος Μέγας Αλέξανδρος/Diethnis Marathonios Megas Alexandros) has taken place every year since 2006 between Pella, the birthplace of Alexander the Great, and Thessaloniki. After 42.195 km, the finish is near the White Tower. There are also 5 and 10 km courses, with some 14,000 runners taking part. The organization is based at the Kaftanzoglio sports complex, which also houses the Thessaloniki Olympic Museum.
