ALEXANDRIO MELATHRON
This basketball stadium (Αλεξάνδρειο Μέλαθρο) is the most beautiful in Greece. Inaugurated in 1966, it is covered by a circular metal roof that sparkles in the sun. Located within the HelExpo, it is state-owned. With a capacity of 5,000 to 6,000 spectators, it is used by the Aris Salonika club, PAOK's great local rival in several disciplines, and is also used for concerts. It is dedicated to Alexander the Great, and the ancient term melathron here refers to a "dome". It is also named after the Greek-American basketball player Nikos Galis.
