CHURCH OF THE SAINTS-APOSTLES
Byzantine church built around 1314, west of the historic center. Twelve domes, frescoes and mosaic fragments. Unesco.
Erected around 1314, this church (Ιερός Ναός Αγίων Αποστόλων/Ieros Naos Agion Apostolon) is one of 15 monuments in Thessaloniki listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site. Founded by the Patriarch of Constantinople, it originally belonged to a monastery dedicated to the Virgin and took the name Church of the Holy Apostles in reference to its twelve domes. Transformed into a mosque from 1525 to 1912, it still preserves beautiful frescoes and fragments of mosaics.
