AGIOS PANTELIMONOS CHURCH OF THESSALONICA
Elegant little church built around 1295. Few frescoes but beautiful walls, minaret base, Islamic garden and fountain. Unesco.
Dedicated to Saint Pantaleon, this elegant little church (Ιερός Ναός Αγίου Παντελεήμονος) was built around 1295 and is one of 15 monuments in Thessaloniki listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site. Converted into a mosque (1548-1912), then damaged by the 1978 earthquake, it retains few frescoes, including that of the Virgin of the Blacherns. Outside: fine brick walls, base of the former minaret, garden and Islamic fountain.
