This synagogue open for worship (Συναγωγή Μοναστηριωτών/Synagogi Monastiriton) was founded in 1927 by Sephardim from Monastir, the present-day city of Bitola, in northern Macedonia. During the Occupation, it was the center of the ghetto where the Jewish population was concentrated, before deportation to the death camps (March-August 1943), and was subsequently saved by the Red Cross.
