PARAPLUIES
Elegant composition by contemporary artist Giorgios Zongolopoulos: 40 metal umbrellas as if suspended by the sea.
This amazing 13 m-high work of art (Οι Ομπρέλες/I Ombreles) won't protect you from the rain, but it's one of the city's most photographed monuments. Installed on the waterfront since 1997, it's very elegant with its 40 metal umbrellas (with holes!) suspended from ten inclined masts. It's one of the most famous creations by Athenian artist Giorgios Zongolopoulos (1903-2004). In a very different style, he also created the Zalongo Monument (1961) in the mountains of Epirus.
