ATATÜRK MUSEUM
Museum run by Turkey in the house billed as the birthplace of Mustafa Kemal, known as Atatürk (1881-1938).
This Turkish-run museum (Atatürk Evi Müzesi) occupies an elegant corbelled house dating from 1870. Located next to the Turkish Consulate, it is billed as the birthplace of Mustafa Kemal, known as Atatürk (1881-1938), the founder of modern Turkey, in 1923. Atatürk was indeed born in Thessaloniki, but in another house that no longer exists. Many Turkish tourists come here to see replicas of personal objects of the "Father of the Turks" (originals in Ankara and Istanbul) and the reconstruction of 19th-century apartments.
