Placed near the shore and topped with green bulbs, this large Russian monastery (Ιερά Μονή Αγίου Παντελεήμονος/Iera Moni Agiou Pantelimonos, Монастырь Святого Пантелеймона/Monastyr Svyatoho Panteleymona) was founded in the 11th century by monks from the Ukraine. It subsequently played a central role in the rise of Russian monasticism. Its current buildings, erected between the 18th and 20th centuries, have welcomed Charles III of England (2002) and Vladimir Putin (2005).
