SKITE AGIA ANNA
Founded in 1666, this large hermitage is part of the Megisti Lavra monastery, and enjoys magnificent views. About 2,000 steps to climb!
This monastery-sized hermitage (Ιερά Σκήτη Αγίας Άννας/Iera Skiti Agias Annas) enjoys grandiose views, set 800 m above sea level on the southwestern slope of the Athos peak. Founded in 1666, it depends on the Megisti Lavra monastery and has around 85 monks living on site, in the nearby skite of Mikra Agia Anna or in some 30 kellia and kalyves (cells) clinging to the cliffs. Access on foot from the Agios Pavlos monastery (3.7 km north) or by boat from Dafni, disembarking at the Agia Anna port and climbing some... 2,000 steps!
