Monastery founded in the late century. frescoes in the catholicon and frescoes in the adjoining chapel.

This monastery (Ιερά Μονή Παναγίας Μαυριωτίσσης/Iera Moni Panagias Mavriotissis) was founded in the late 11th century by Emperor Alexis Comnene on the site of a battle won against the Normans in 1083. Dominated by a red bell tower, the catholicon features 13th-century frescoes (including a portrait of Emperor Michael VIII Palaeologus). To the south, the Agios Ioannis Theologos chapel features 16th-century frescoes. Good restaurant nearby.
