AGIOS NIKOLAOS KASNITZIS CHURCH
Preserves part of its original frescoes painted around 1170-1180. A precious testimony to Byzantine art under the Comnenes.
This rectangular church (Ιερός Ναός Αγίου Νικολάου του Κασνίτζη) was erected around 1170-1180. It retains some of its original frescoes, in particular the portrait of the donors: Nikephoros Kasnitzis and his wife Anna. Also: cycle of the life of Saint Nicholas, Deisis with Christ as the "Ancient of Days", portraits of doctor and warrior saints, Dormition of the Virgin Mary... A precious testimony to Byzantine art under the Comnene dynasty.
