KASTORIA BYZANTINE MUSEUM
Impressive collection of 700 icons from the to centuries, including those from the prestigious "Kastoria School of Art".
This museum (Βυζαντινού Μουσείου Καστοριάς/Vyzantinou Mousio Kastorias) houses an impressive collection of 700 icons from the 12th to 17th centuries from churches in and around the town. Such richness is said to be due to the emergence of painting workshops here as early as the 11th century, before the emergence of the prestigious "Kastoria school of art" that spread throughout the southern Balkans in the 15th and 16th centuries, in particular with the Albanian painter Onufri.
