DRAGON CAVE
Superb cave with 10 chambers and seven small lakes on the Lake Orestiada peninsula. Guided tour along a 300 m path.
According to legend, this cave (Σπήλαιο του Δράκου/Spilaio tou Drakou) was a gold mine guarded by a dragon. In fact, it was only discovered in 1940 and apparently never occupied by man. Still, it's a superb site. Every half-hour, a guided tour takes visitors through ten rooms along a 300 m-long trail, with stalactites forming "curtains" and "dragon's teeth", stalagmites and seven small lakes. The exhibition includes a copy of the cave bear jaw discovered in the cave.
