ORESTIADA LAKE
Lake on the edge of Kastoria. Fishing area, large peninsula, beautiful scenery with Mount Verno, boat hire and excursions.
This 28.6 km2 lake (Λίμνη Ορεστιάδα/Limni Orestiada) is bordered by Kastoria to the west and Mount Verno (2,128 m a.s.l.) to the north. Named after the Oreads, the nymphs of the mountains and caves, it is also known as "Lake Kastoria". Fed by the Aliakmon River, it is an important Natura 2000 bird reserve and fishing area. It is distinguished by its large peninsula (with the "Dragon's Cave") and by the fact that its waters freeze over in winter. Boat rental and excursion agencies are available.
