ANASTASIS CHURCH
Dedicated to the Resurrection of Christ, this Byzantine church dating from 1315 retains much of its original frescoes.
The Church of the "Resurrection" (Ιερός Ναός Αναστάσεως του Χριστού/Ierós Naós Anastaseos tou Christou) is one of the most precious of Veria's 48 churches. Dating from 1315, it was part of a monastery. Since 1950, it has been surrounded by a porch on three sides. The interior retains many of the original frescoes: Crucifixion of Christ, Dormition of the Mother of God, portraits of Byzantine saints and noblemen. To the south, the Agi Kirykos kai Ioulitta church features frescoes from the 14th, 15th and 19th centuries.
