VERIA BYZANTINE MUSEUM
Museum of Byzantine culture in the region during the Byzantine Empire and subsequent centuries: icons, frescoes, mosaics..
This history museum (Βυζαντινό Μουσείο/Vyzantino Mousio) is housed in a 1911 former flour mill. On three floors, it traces the development of the region under the Eastern Roman Empire until the capture of Veria by the Ottomans in 1433, then the persistence of Byzantine culture in subsequent centuries: mosaics, frescoes and church elements, icons, including beautiful representations of St. Catherine (14th century) and the Virgin with her mother (15th century), local architecture from the 19th century... Carefully presented.
