Traditional brandy festival in northern Greece, in Mesimeri (Macedonia), Sunday late October or early November.
In October, the smell of stills can be smelled all over Greece. In Mesimeri, the end of the double distillation of the grapes harvested a month earlier gives rise to a festival (Γιορτή Τσίπουρου/Yorti Tsipourou) with singing, dancing and food in the village square, but also, of course, tasting of tsipouro, a brandy (40-45°), close to Cretan raki and Italian grappa. Less well known than ouzo, but much more natural, tsipouro comes in an aniseed-flavored version, is drunk without ice and accompanies all kinds of dishes in northern Greece.
