NAOUSSA VINEYARDS
Wine-growing region south of Edessa renowned for its endemic single-varietal PDO: Xinomavro, which produces fine, complex wines.
Around the town of Naoussa/Νάουσα (population approx. 19,000) lie some of Greece's finest wines. Covering 333 ha, the Naoussa PDO is characterized by its single grape variety, xinomavro, an endemic red grape grown on the slopes of Mount Vermion that yields fine, complex red, rosé, blanc de rouge and sparkling wines. Among the 18 PDO producers, the most important are Boutari and Kir-Yianni. For organic wines, we recommend the Thymiopoulos estate in Trilofo, 14 km southeast of Naoussa.
