Ottoman style house in Kavala, property of Mehemet Ali.
This museum (Μουσείο Μωχάμετ Άλη/Mousio Mohamet Ali) is housed in an elegant 18th-century Ottoman house where Kavala's most famous figure, Mehmet Ali Pasha (1769-1849), was born and lived until he was 30. Of Turkish-Albanian origin, this Ottoman officer founded Egypt's last royal dynasty (1805-1953). He is considered the "father" of modern Egypt. Owned by the Egyptian state, the 330m2 house has been magnificently restored, with a garden and an exhibition on Mehmet Ali Pasha and local Muslim traditions.
