SERRES ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
Museum housed in a Ottoman bedesten (covered market) with six domes. Rather minor archaeological collection.
This museum (Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο Σερρών/Archaiologiko Mousio Serron) is especially noteworthy for its building, one of the last two bedestens in Greece: a former 15th-century Ottoman covered market. Under its six lead domes, you'll find a collection ranging from the Neolithic to the Byzantine era. Note the Amphipolis marble funerary doors, a votive plaque depicting an ear (2nd century) and a gilded mosaic of St. Andrew (12th century)... horribly restored!
