ARGILOS ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE
Site of ancient Argilos, founded in the century BC. Nice visit in summer with the presence of Quebec archaeologists.
On a hill by the sea, this site (Αρχαία Άργιλος/Archaia Argilos) houses the remains of the city of Argilos founded by settlers from the island of Andros around 655 BC and destroyed by Philip II in 357 BC. Large sections of the stone walls of dwellings and public buildings are still visible. It's a great place to visit in summer, with archaeologists from the Université de Montréal on hand, as well as a good Makis fish tavern on the nearby beach.
