Ancient city of Amphipolis. Early Christian basilicas (mosaics), Hellenistic house (painted walls) and gymnasium (with palestra).
This site (Αρχαιολογικός Χώρος Αμφίπολης/Archaiologikos Choros Amfipolis) houses the remains of Amphipolis. On the acropolis: bases of four 4th-5th-century Early Christian basilicas. Basilica "A" in particular features mosaics under cover. To the south: rooms with painted walls in the Hellenistic house (2nd century BC) and a 4th-century BC gymnasium, restored by the Romans, with palestra, a vast hall (47 x 36 m) where ephebes trained.
