MUROL CASTLE
A castle clinging to a rock, a residential site where you can discover its architecture and the couleuvrine bearing the coat of arms of François d'Estaing.
Perched at an altitude of 1050 m, Château de Murol, founded in the 11th century, commanded key roads in the Auvergne. Spared by the English during the Hundred Years' War, it suffered from the plague. Guillaume II de Murol strengthened the fort in 1390 and documented his work in precious registers. Adapted militarily until the 17th century, it became a den of brigands, then a quarry. Classified as a historic monument in 1889, it now belongs to the commune of Murol. Animations and unique relics, such as the couleuvrine of François Ier d'Estaing, bring its history to life.
