OXIA EPISKEPSIS MUSEUM
This ecclesiastical museum houses painted icons and owes its name to its centerpiece: a bas-relief icon.
The ecclesiastical museum of the "Intense Visitation" (Βυζαντινό Μουσείο Οξεία Επίσκεψις/Vyzantino Mousio Oxia Episkepsis) houses a rich collection of painted icons from the 18th to the 20th century. It owes its name to its centerpiece: a 13th-century marble icon in bas-relief, 1.70 m high, depicting the Virgin Mary with open arms and two portraits of the Christ child. Also of note are three icons from the 1910s by the naive painter Theophilos: Resurrection of Christ, St. Mary Magdalene and St. Mary the Egyptian.
