REPLICA OF THE ARGONAUT SHIP
28.50 m long wooden ship representing the mythical Argo, which led Jason and the Argonauts in search of the Golden Fleece.
This wooden ship represents theArgo (Ἀργώ) that took Jason and the Argonauts in search of the Golden Fleece. The story is mythological, but this 28.5 m-long monère (single-level rowing galley) was built between 2004 and 2008 using ancient techniques and Pelion trees. Requiring 50 rowers, it is sometimes launched or displayed in summer on the Argonauts promenade, in front of the historic (yellow) building of the University of Thessaly.
