THEOPHILOS MUSEUM
Kontos House ( century), whose interior walls were decorated in 1912 by the great naive painter Theophilos Hadjimichaïl.
This museum (Μουσείο Θεοφίλου/Mousio Theophilou) is located in Anakasia, below the Pelion villages of Makrinitsa and Protaria. This is the Kontos house (early 19th century), the interior of which was painted in 1912 by the great naive artist Theophilos Hadjimichaïl (c. 1870-1934): battle scenes from the War of Independence, depictions of the gods Ares, Aphrodite, Hermes and Athena, a portrait of the owner Ioannis Kontos, flowers, wild animals and more. Other works can be seen in Protaria, or on Lesbos, the painter's native island.
