ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF DIMINI
Mycenaean remains, including a large underground tomb, and the fortifications of one of Europe's oldest farming villages.
This site (Αρχαιολογικός Χώρος Διμηνίου/Archaiologikos Choros Dimniou) houses a large underground tholos (circular tomb) called Lamiospito and the remains of two palaces from the Mycenaean period (14th century BC) thought to be those of the city of Icolos, of which Pagases/Volos was the port. It also preserves the fortifications of farmers from the5th millennium BC: these men of the so-called "Dimini culture" were among the first farmers in Europe.
