This valley (Κοιλάδα των Τεμπών/Kilada ton Tempon) is made up of beautiful gorges carved out by the River Penea between Mounts Olympus and Ossa. It is used by road and the Athens-Thessaloniki railroad line, while the freeway runs underground for 6 km. On the right bank, the springs of Dafni (or Apollo) and Aphrodite. On the left bank, the great Greek Orthodox sanctuary of Agia Paraskevi was devastated by huge floods in 2023. Rafting available on request from the Hotel Metropol, Larissa.
