This monument (Μνημείο Ολοκαυτώματος Εβραίων/Mnimio Olokaftomatos Evraion) pays tribute to the 235 Jewish inhabitants of the town who were deported and murdered by the Nazis in March 1944. Representing a grieving woman, this work by sculptor Giorgos Chouliaras was installed here in 1987, opposite a synagogue destroyed in 1944. Larissa had a Jewish population of around 1,120 in 1941, compared with around 100 today. An 1860 synagogue remains 2 km to the south-west, near the barracks.
