ST. NICHOLAS' MONASTERY

Built on the lake and connected to the coast by a wooden bridge, the monastery of St. Nicholas belongs to the monastic authorities of Mount Athos. This metoki from the Vatopedi monastery on Mount Athos is built on a small islet in the lagoon. The area is a stopping place for entire bird colonies as they migrate north or south.
