Important collection of objects from Thracian sites. Gold bust of the Roman emperor Septimius Severus.
This museum houses an important collection of objects (ceramics, jewelry, coins), sculptures and stones found on the sites of Abdera, Maronia and Messimvria. The objects on display cover a wide period from prehistoric times to the Roman era. The highlight of the museum is undoubtedly Hall E, with its fine gold bust of the Roman emperor Septimius Severus. It's a pleasant, highly educational museum, often visited by school groups.
