CHALCIS DECK

An impressive suspension bridge, a masterpiece of contemporary architecture and technology, now covers the canal. It has replaced the old small mobile bridge on the Euripe channel. The new bridge, built further south, provides easier access to the city centre and avoids traffic congestion. The old mobile bridge allows visitors to observe the characteristic phenomenon of strong alternating currents that change direction several times a day. It was built in its present form in 1962.
