CHURCH OF AGHIA PARASKEVI
Church built on an ancient temple dedicated to Zeus which was transformed into a mosque.
Remember his name: the saint Paraskevi is the patron saint of Chalcis. The building dedicated to him here is a5th-century basilica built on the site of a temple dedicated to Artemis, Apollo and Leto. In the 13th century, the Venetians added Gothic sculptures. This church is an important Byzantine monument, already for its impressive size (38.40 m by 19.90 m). The church was originally built on an ancient temple dedicated to Zeus. During the Ottoman period, as is often the case in this country, it was transformed into a mosque.
