APHAIA TEMPLE
Temple dedicated to Athena, one of the three temples of the sacred triangle Parthenon, Sounion and Aphaia
4 km north of Aghia Marina, on a wooded hill with a breathtaking view of the Saronic Gulf, a majestic temple dating from the 5th century. In Doric style, it is one of the three temples of the sacred triangle Parthenon, Sounion and Aphaea. For a very long time, it was wrongly considered that such a beautiful temple could only be dedicated to Jupiter. At the end of the 19th century, it was understood that the temple was dedicated to Athena. At the entrance, a sign at 490 av reminds us of the original layout of the sanctuary. J. A museum completes the story.
