MEXIS MUSEUM
Museum presenting a collection of costumes, ship models, weapons and coins
Housed in a magnificent 18th century mansion owned by Hadziyannis Mexis, one of the spetsiot leaders of the War of Independence and the first governor of the island, this museum displays a collection of costumes, ship models, weapons and coins. The first floor is open to the public and its exhibits cover 4,000 years of the island's cultural history. A quick visit to the museum won't keep you busy for long, but the sumptuous building, which dates back to 1798, is well worth the detour for its spectacular architecture.
