From Ioulis, it's just 3 km to the summit of Mount Profitis Ilias (Προφήτης Ηλίας). With a little stamina and good shoes, it's possible to get there on foot. Much of the route follows the tarmac road. A stone staircase then leads to the summit, from where you can enjoy a pretty incredible panorama over the Messaria terraces (to the north of the island), the green valleys of the island's center and the arid hillsides of ancient Karthea. A lovely walk, with beautiful paths and a detour to the church of Episkopí.
