Lion of Tsia carved in the rock to scare away the nymphs according to the legend.

Carved right into the cliff (6 m long and 3 m high all the same), the Lion of Tsia (Ο Λέων της Κέας) has been smiling at visitors since the 6th century BC. According to one version of the legend (but there are others), the villagers abandoned Ioulis because the nymphs who lived in the mountain were killing their wives. A priest begged Zeus for help, and he sent a lion to chase away the cruel creatures. The villagers decided to carve a reproduction of the animal into the rock, so that the nymphs, frightened, would never return.
