Church dedicated to the cult of Dionysus preserving remains of walls and palaces.

On a small peninsula jutting out into the bay, Aghia Irini (Αγία Ειρήνη) is undoubtedly the most beautiful of Kéa's 200 or so churches and chapels. It stands near the ruins of one of the oldest sites in the Aegean. The American School of Archaeology discovered a city here dating back to the Copper Age (around 2800 BC). You'll also see the remains of walls and a palace from the Mycenaean period. A sanctuary completed the ancient city: during the classical era, the site was dedicated to the cult of Dionysus.
