VRISSI MONASTERY
The monastery of Vrissi houses a museum of ecclesiastical and Byzantine art.
This is the largest monastery on the island. The path leading up to it envelops you in serenity, with the dazzling whiteness of the walls set in lush vegetation. The Vrissi (or Vrissiani) monastery was built in the 17th century. Today, it houses a museum of ecclesiastical and Byzantine art. Here you'll find beautiful icons, precious manuscripts, including a Gospel dating from 1796, and all manner of reliquaries and liturgical vestments. The monastery is dedicated to the Virgin of Vrissi, or Virgin of the Spring. Under the white dome, what a view!
