LIVADAKI BEACH
Large pebble beach offering a hike on the clearly marked paths.
Do not mix Livadi, in the south of the island, and Livadaki which is mentioned here and which is certainly the most beautiful beach of Folegandros. This large beach of white pebbles is located in a sumptuous and impressive rocky landscape: everywhere, it seems surrounded by the rock that runs down to the sea. The waters are transparent and emerald, despite their depth. It is a natural swimming pool where one can easily observe octopus and fish. A little set back from the sea, tamarisk trees provide shade while large flat rocks offer themselves to the sunbathing on the right side of the beach.
For walkers, arriving in Livadaki from the trail that passes the Aspropounta lighthouse is a wonder you will not forget. The 1.5 hour hike is not very difficult downhill, but it is sometimes badly indicated, which makes it more complicated. Recently signposted (follow the letters FL in blue), you should still be able to find your way around. The ascent is inevitably more difficult... The hike starts from the old mills in Ano Meria. Take the dirt road that goes down to the sea behind the mills and continues to the church Aghia Fotini. Just before reaching the chapel, you will see the path marked very clearly in blue (Faros-Livadaki) on the left. The walk is beautiful, quite gentle until you reach the pretty Aspropounta lighthouse, which dates back to 1919. The last section of the hike is more rocky and you will have to look for the beacons, but the arrival on the heights of the beach is exceptional.
