The tradition of loukoums was brought over by refugees from the island of Chios in 1822, and has since been integrated into local traditions. Today, Syros is renowned throughout the country for its loukoums, and the Korres artisan is surely the island's best-known producer. You'll find loukoums, of course, in a variety of flavors, including the classic rose, but also a delicious bergamot variant and others. We also recommend halvatopittes, a type of nougat that makes an excellent gift to take home.
