CATACOMBS
Catacombs with necropolis of the first Christians, one of the important paleochristian monuments.
Dating from the 6th century BC, these catacombs are considered to be the second most important early Christian monument. Indeed, they reveal the necropolises of the first Christians in the 1st century. In the 5th century, the entrance was buried in an earthquake and they were then rediscovered, by chance, in 1840. After going down a few steps, you can appreciate and observe part of this 184 m long trench system, carved in pumice stone, about 150 metres above sea level.
