HELLENISTIC TOWER
Five-story tower of cylindrical shape and remarkably preserved in Gavrion.
2.5 kilometers from Gavrion stands this five-storey Hellenistic tower of Agios Petros (πυργος αγιου πετρου). Cylindrical in shape and remarkably well preserved, it rises to a height of around 20 metres and was built in the so-called Hellenistic period (4th-3rd centuries BC). With a diameter of 9.40 metres at its base, the tower is built entirely of local schist. Inside, a spiral staircase leads to at least five floors. The tower overlooks the Gavrio plain and offers a superb view of the sea.
