Paleopolis (Παλαιόπολη) was the island's political and cultural capital in ancient times, between the 6th century BC and the early Byzantine period. Since 2003, this archaeological site has been home to a museum featuring a wealth of statues, vases and jewelry, the oldest dating back to the5th century BC. Take the 1,039 steps down to the pebble beach... An ancient acropolis inhabited in Neolithic times, the eponymous village in the center of the island offers a superb view of the Aegean Sea.
