Since 1979, this cableway (Τελεφερίκ Σαντορίνης/Teleferik Santorinis) has linked Santorini's old port to Thira, 220 meters higher up. You'll enjoy beautiful views over the archipelago's bay, while overlooking the impressive path that zigzags along the side of the caldera. The trip takes just 3 minutes, but with 6 cabins for 6 people, beware of "traffic jams" when the cruisers disembark. The ascent on foot (588 steps) takes 25-30 minutes, with the sad spectacle of poor donkeys and mules carrying tourists and luggage under the sun.
