IOANNIS TOU VAPTISTIS CATHEDRAL
Santorini's Catholic cathedral. Half-Baroque, half-Cycladic in style, it dates back to 1823 and was rebuilt after the 1956 earthquake.
This Catholic cathedral dedicated to St. John the Baptist (Καθεδρικός Αγίου Ιωάννη του Βαπτιστή) adopts a half-Baroque, half-Cycladic style with a blue, white, beige bell tower and dome. Dating from 1823, it was rebuilt after the 1956 earthquake. It is the seat of the diocese of Thira: some 450 Greek faithful (as well as Albanians, Poles...) in Santorini, Thirassia, Anafi, Ios, Sikinos and Folegandros. Opposite, an alley leads to the Dominican convent.
