On the edge of the caldera, this all-white Greek Orthodox cathedral (Ιερός Μητροπολιτικός Ναός Υπαπαντής Θήρας) enjoys beautiful views over Santorini bay. Founded in 1827 and rebuilt in 1968, it is dominated by a modern bell tower, a large dome and boasts a long portico. Dedicated to the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, it is the seat of the metropolis (bishopric) of Thira, which covers the southern Cyclades. The interior is richly decorated.
