MEGARO GYZI MUSEUM
An 18th-century "palace" houses a museum on the history of the Venetian Gyzi family and the Catholics of the Cyclades.
This museum (Μουσείο του Μεγάρου Γκύζη/Mousio tou Megarou Gyzi) is housed in the megaron ("palace") built in the 18th century for the wealthy Venetian Ghisi/Gyzi family, who settled in Santorini in 1642, after having been part of the aristocracy of the Duchy of Naxos (1205-1579). The museum retraces the history of this family, Santorini and the Catholics of the Cyclades: antique furniture, paintings, photographs... The Gyzi Megaron cultural center organizes a three-week festival here in August: classical music, opera, jazz..
