Beaches around Akrotiri offering pleasant swimming.

Ten minutes walk from the parking lot, it is called in Greek "Kokkini": it is the famous " Red Beach", literally "the beach of red sand". You will discover an impressive, but narrow, volcanic sand beach overhung by red cliffs. The water is pure, and there are not too many waves. A nice place to swim, but a little too crowded in the summer, especially since you have to pay for your deckchair. Nearby, the beach of Cambia is known for its church and the celebration that takes place there on the evening of July 21. The beach of Mesa Pigadia, quite difficult to reach by car from Akrotiri, is not always as clean as one would like. The beach of Gyalos is easier, quieter, without umbrellas, and can be reached on foot or by car. In other tones, you can also go by caique to Aspri Paralia or "White Beach", where the water is surrounded by impressive white cliffs. Mesa Pigadia Beach (also called "Black Beach", with black rocks) is less crowded. You will find it by leaving in the direction of the lighthouse: turn left after about three kilometers and follow a trail. There is a sea cave in the rock, which you can cross. Finally, east of Akrotiri, Vlichada is the most impressive beach: black sand and high cliffs with improbable shapes. It is quite crowded but it is still really great.
