Monastery with a spring used for hydromancy in Katapola.
This monastery (Άγιος Γεώργιος Βαλσαμίτης) is located on the right-hand side of the road to Kato Meria. It's a 1-hour walk to reach this 17th-century basilica, made all the more interesting by the fact that its spring was used for hydromancy (divination by means of water). Archaeologists believe that this practice, which involves studying water particles to predict the future, has ancient origins and that a sanctuary (probably dedicated to Asclepius) must have existed here.
